Physiology of Combat

Here's an interesting article from David Grossman, a leading expert on the effects of Combat on Human Beings. He's the author of 'On Killing: The psychological cost of learning to kill in war and society'. The article talks about the degradation of fine motor co-ordination during combat. Well worth a read for those who hope to be able to defend themselves in life or death situations.

  1. During his recent seminar Hock Hochheim stated that much of the material quoted by Grossman in this article came from the PPCT founder, Bruce Siddle and had been disproved by recent scientific studies. As such I wouldn't place too much emphasis on specific heart rate BPM causing certain responses. Instead just consider that in a time of stress target fixation may cause you to lose you peripheral awareness and some degree of fine motor co-ordination.
